Introduction: According to World Health Organization (WHO) 400.000 children and adolescents are diagnosed with cancer annually. In the Hospital de Amor Infantojuvenil of Barretos were recorded over 27 thousand medical appointments in the period of 2017. Children with cancer and their parents have a significantly increased risk of psychosocial difficulties during all phases of the treatment, including after overcoming the disease. The psychiatric care at the Hospital de Amor Infantojuvenil of Barretos aimed to understand the difficulties and importance of emotional and psychiatric aspects in pediatric cancer treatment. Experience report: An observational study was carried at the Hospital de Amor Infantojuvenil of Barretos, from June 1st to June 24th of 2022, were followed the appointment made by the psychiatrist. During the appointments, patients with psychiatric and/or emotional issues such as anxiety, depression, suicide, and palliative care were seen. During the internship, it was perceived that one of the main difficulties is the management of the specific needs of each family, in addition to the suffering in the face of such a stigmatized condition as cancer. Society tends to ignore these children autonomy, so another challenge was to empower the patient, so that he/she participates in the whole process, including decisions. Therefore, the psychiatric and psychological follow-up of these patients is extremely important since it provides a more comprehensive view of the emotional issues and the more complex form of the desires and needs of these children. Final considerations: In summary, even in the face of various difficulties, it was perceived that psychiatric care is the translation of what the institution preaches: hope and love. This way, we can guarantee humanization in cancer treatments, looking at our patients in a biopsychosocial and integrated way, providing them with dignity and hope in the search for improvement the quality of life.
