Abstract

The academic experiences of students during their first year at university are crucial for their success and retention in the institution. Especially in the early years, young entrants to higher education face challenges that extend beyond professional training, as this transition is marked by numerous challenges, including adaptation to the course and the transition from adolescence to adulthood. Several authors highlight the importance of providing services to students at higher education institutions to aid their integration, learning, and development. This study aims to present the actions undertaken by the Student Suport Center - NAE at a private higher education institution offering a medical degree, aimed at assisting students in their adaptation and retention within the institution. This is quantitative research, whose data collection was carried out through documentary research. During the research, the NAE of the investigated institution and the various services provided by the department were examined, revealing a total of 11,079 consultations between 2012 and 2023. There has been a rising demand for the offered programs, which aim to contribute to student adaptation, retention, and academic progress.
