Abstract

Introduction: It´s seen as a less harmful alternative for those who want to quit smoking, the use of electronic cigarette (e-cigarette) has become increasingly common. Currently, the safety of this device has been questioned, because it can cause changes in organ systems, including dermatological manifestations. Aim: The aim of this paper is to review those dermatological manifestations associated with the use of e-cigarrete described in literature. Material: Scientific articles were selected using PubMed database, which evaluated the dermatological changes associated with e-cigarette. Results: Oral mucosal lesions as hairy black tongue and lichenoid reactions, beyond contact dermatitis were reported with e-cigarette use. Thermal injuries such as burns  may also occur. Conclusion: The use of e-cigarrete has increased among adults and teenagers since 2010. Adverse effects of e-cigarette are described in the literature, due to exposure to nicotine, chemical, thermal and explosive injuries, which can lead to burns. The oral mucosal and skin may be affected by the use of these devices. Dermatologists should be aware of the dermatological diseases associated with this device.
